San Francisco: Dancer admires choreography of Divine Performing Arts Show
Hello, this is Wilma Reynolds for the SOH Radio Network, bringing you the Divine Performing Arts for 2009 coverage.
At the San Francisco Divine Performing Arts show which was held at the Cupertino Flint center we interviewed Shreelata, who was a dancer herself.
We asked her to tell us a bit about her dance company:
Vishreshanti (universal peace) Dance Academy. Vishreshanti means universal peace and very similar to what the Divine Culture Art centre is doing. Our mission is also to spread the sacredness of our art; the classical dance of South India.
We asked Shreelata what she thought of the show:
“It’s beautiful, the choreography, the costumes, the dancers themselves they are extremely beautiful. Very well talented, very well practiced and beautifully choreographed.
We asked her what was her favourite piece was:
“I love the drum piece. The drums are really really nice and the monkey king was very nice and the poet. They where all very nice pieces and that current day scene of how Chinese were prosecuted also very touching. Very well done.
We asked Shreelata how the show compared to Indian classical dance:
“Indian classical dance is very divine as well and very spiritual. It is about the Hindu religion and the Oneness and how divine is just one, just one God and everything is divine and very similar where you are thinking the Buddhist teachings and very similar to what we would be saying as well.”
We asked her if she had learnt anything new about Chinese culture from the show:
“Yes we visited China some time ago and we saw that different types of Chinese dance and this was completely different and the fact that Buddhism has been involved and a lot of spirituality is included in it is different. I don’t think it was there. It was good.
Since the Chinese Communist Parties suppression of it’s five-thousand year-old culture, many of it’s traditional dances and beliefs have been wiped out or altered. It is the Divine Performing Arts mission to revive this beautiful culture for the people of today and for later generations. Ancient Chinese culture consisted of building up virtue and following the Buddhist and Daoist scriptures.
