DENVER-COLOR OF THE MUSIC
Welcome, this is Corinne Malaske for SOH Radio Network. Tonight’s interview takes place at the Buell Theatre in Denver, Colorado. Denver is a mixture of untamed wilderness, wild rivers, craggy mountains in coexistence with major modern metropolis’. Everywhere a blending of the old and the new. One can see the old worked out mines, most of which did not lead to great wealth. The railroads coming through brought a diversity of culture here as in many other states. Always a blending of old and new, good and bad. I lived near the base of Pikes Peak for awhile, as did many military families. The Mountains, the Royal Gorge and Garden of the Gods all touched a place within me that feels deities. The nearby metropolis’ have the feel of man always trying to imitate gods.
To place their mark on something that will endure beyond their own lives.
sophia park song has been a faculty member in the piano department for 3 years at the University in Denver, Colorado. She found the show absolutely wonderful. The emotions went through her heart and mind. Although born in the United states, she is of Korean ethnicity and so bicultural. Sophia was quite excited to see the two cultures blended together.
Sophia gives you a wonderfully inciteful and articulate description of tonight’s experience at the Divine Performing Arts’ Chinese New Year performance. I really enjoyed listening. She felt the messages in the live orchestra’s playing and even saw the colors that flowed from the music in perfect sync with the performers movements. In the essence of the colors, the graceful dance movements and music there was a harmonic theme that brings a message from heart to heart. The numbers made her think of the connections between the heavens and history flowing into the future.
Sophia, “You had a big banner up at the very end. I was thinking about hope, thinking about the future and trying to think about those wonderful gifts that come from traditions a long, long time ago. Trying not to forget that this is what I am taking away from this, right today. In this fast moving soceity that we live in, we are not really given the time to reflect on where the origin of these ideas come from. It really goes back to history thousands and thousands of years ago. Just remembering and being humbled by the fact that this is not new knowledge, but something in history to be carried on. Something to keep in mind and to always aspire to live on with a lot of hope.
Please listen to Sophia’s inspiring experience from tonight’s performance.
