Welcome, I am Corinne Malaske for SOH Radio Network. Tonight’s performance was at the Historical Orpheum Theater in Memphis, Tennesee. Memphis, itself has a long and prestigious history centered around music and entertainment.  Many great performers and music came out of this city.  A perfect location for a performance by the Divine Performing Arts. They started in 2006 with a vison of cultural renewal. Chinese classical arts from a time in China when they were foremost in the world.  These were the elite performances that could be seen only in the halls of the Emperor and Empress of China. They now bring these performances to the World’s people. A reminder of Chinese ancestral dignity. The heights to which their culture reached in the past.

Our reporter spoke with Mayor Stan Joyner, his wife and granddaughter Abbey this evening. Mayor Joyner told us this is the first live performance of this type. They found it all very beautiful and exciting. They liked the performance with the little girl, who seems to be around Abbey’s age.

I wanted to share with you an interesting story I learned about the theater here. It seems a little girl died in some sort of accident on Beale street in 1921. She is known only as Mary. She is said to have pigtails and wears a white dress. She found her way into the theater when it was reopened in 1928. No doubt drawn by the performances.  She prefers theater seat C-5 and plays the organ sometimes. Her favorite tune is “Never, Never Land.” Maybe some of our theater-goers saw her, maybe not.  Anyway, I know she enjoyed the evening.
