Welcome to Minnesota’s winter wonderland. This is Corinne Malaske bringing you coverage of the 2009 Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year. There is always so much going on in the Twin Cities during Winter. Cabin fever – is a desire to breathe fresh air and feel the sunlight during a approximate 4 month long winter season here. We leave our warm homes for snowmobiling, skating, skiing, ice sculptures, parades, entertainment and fun. This year’s DPA performance flowed across the stage with all new numbers.  Monk Ji Gong Abducts the Bride was a light hearted number. The music and dance in this piece lifted my heart and carried me along. Even though a mountain was waiting to fall upon the village. Just enchanting. Among the audience members was Alan Hill, a specialist engineer. Adrian bought tickets to this performance for its cultural content. They believe it is very important to expose their young son Justin to other cultures. Justin really wanted to tell me what he liked best. When it was finally his turn, he had forgotten what he was so excited to share. Anyone still in the theater after the show certainly heard the “Awesome” he shouted in tremendous excitement. Mom told me thursday is show and tell and his schoolmates will hear all about tonight.Alaina just loved the color and the music. She was so into the music and dance that she almost joined them on stage. Alan was captivated by the mixing of colors and the drums. The live orchestra was a stunning addition and the conductor did a fabulous job.Michelle Brown is an account manager with TFCU. Her friend, Lana Wehrman works for Target Corporation. They truly enjoyed the costumes and dances. Michelle said she spent a few weeks in China last year and it gave her a chance to revisit those memories. The Divine Performing Arts moved on Thursday. There are three teams circling the globe. You can find information about the DPA, the performers, tickets and locations at www.divineperforming arts.com.
