This is Corinne Malaske for SOH Radio Network with coverage of the Divine Performing Arts show at the Kennedy Center Opera House February 12th. Visit the website and you will learn that President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed legislation to create the National Cultural Center. There is an educational mission, an artistic mandate to present a wide variety of classical and contemporary performances through private, independent, self-supported funding. President John F Kennedy, wife Jacqueline and Mrs. Eisenhower led a tremendous campaign to fund the center. President Kennedy called it “Our contribution to the human spirit.” After his assassination in November 1963, the center was named a ‘living memorial’ in his honor. Exceptional progams from many cultures all over the world have played within the walls of this center.

Tonight the Divine Performing Arts brings their world class performance to this “living memorial” for all to see. Performances reserved in history only for the Emperors, Empress’ and their guests. Every performance had to be of the highest standard. They often dealt with the spiritual, honoring dieties. It told tales of the dieties and their gifts of knowledge, weather, strength, beauty and hope. Dr. Thomas Mastroianni stopped to talk to our reporter.

Dr. Mastroianni is Professor Emeritus of Piano at the Catholic University of America.  His reputation and many accomplishments, awards and degrees over the last 30 years in the areas of music and musical performers are already legendary. Of tonights performance, he said, “It’s really a good show on every level. It is artistic, ethical, cultural, interpersonal it just reaches so many areas of the audience. That’s what impressed me the, at heart, people are pretty much the same. The values that are expressed were Human values. If we could all realize that, I think there would be peace in the world. It was a very enjoyable show and I think is has a message. What else could you ask for?”
