A display of stunning colourful costumes in a Divine Performing Arts curtain call.

Welcome to the SOH Radio Network, my name is Grace Mann and it is again my privilege to bring you this DPA update from the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, DC on the 15th February.

Present at this Divine Performing Arts show was retired telephonist, Olien Calcy and her niece, Ms. Bri-an, a government security analyst.   This is their sharings on the show.

Ms. Calcy’s portrayal of the performance was that it was realistic, beautiful and inspirational; she loved it.

While Ms. Bri-an’s response to the show was that she loved the costumes and the colours of the costumes. The show was wonderful.

The message Ms. Calcy received from the show was how vital it is to understand other people’s culture, and that it (the message) was very beautiful.  Ms Calcy also said they will probably go see the show again.

Ms. Bri-an’s depiction of the performance was:  it was vibrant and fulfilling and it awakens you.  It was a really great show, really beautiful.

Traditional Chinese costumes are an integral symbol of China’s five millennia culture. The appearance and evolution of Chinese traditional costumes are closely connected with the economy and politics, military affairs, ideology and culture, along with spiritual faith and customs of the people.  Not only do they fulfil a material purpose, these costumes also reflect the stages of cultural development within the society from which they evolved, taking on the distinct characteristic changes throughout each dynasty over thousands of years.

Each historical period distinguishes itself from the rest, yet the costumes of each period are also subtly connected, borrowing and learning from one another and developing continuously, generation after generation.

DPA costume designers have used amazing artistry in every aspect of the show’s costuming, The garments themselves and also the materials used, hats and hairstyles etc., are ingeniously brought forth in a pageantry of stunning colour and meticulous design, to world-wide audiences.  Being respectful of China’s ancient culture and history, everything is designed based on authentic historical data throughout the entire resourceful process.

Within every act of the DPA performances, each performer’s amazing portrayals of specific aspects of China’s ancient culture and history, is enhanced by their stunningly created traditional Chinese costumes.
