“The show is wonderful, I truly enjoyed it” – Tom Barnhorn

Mahaffey Theater at the Progress Energy Center
Welcome once again to the SOH Radio network, a proud sponsor of Shen Yun Performing Arts.
My name is Jason Wegener and in this program we’ll be looking at the latest performance by the Shen Yun Touring Company in St. Petersburg, Florida on Friday January the 29th.
We spoke with Tom Barnhorn after the show to find out what he thought of his Shen Yun experience.
Barnhorn: My name is Tom Barnhorn, city councilman here in Seminal Florida, Florida, and I’m just excited to be here tonight, the show itself was wonderful, the show is wonderful, I truly enjoyed it, mountain fairies that was a beautiful on, all the whites just came up, the dancing the sleeves, the colors, the orchestration of that just wonderful, I’m just kind of sad inside because I hear that in the nature country that this came from they can’t even enjoy it, and I really feel bad about that, hopefully one day they will be able to return the natural culture the natural art forms, but I’m so glad that you’re sharing with us in our country, I encourage anybody who hasn’t seen the show please come out see it, its beautiful work of art, thank you for having me here.
Reporter: Can you comment on the value present in the show?
Barnhorn: Yeah, when I did watch you can see you have what 5000 years of culture right here, and it was going through the beauty of it, from the mountain tops from the religious aspect and the undertone there, and one of things that I’m kind of amazed about the show is as we went through you not only had the colors the dances, dances that were similar to other cultures but different in their own, but at the same time you also had beautiful music to go with it, the instruments were wonderful, and your baritone singer he was fantastic, and the lady who came out to sing soprano, she was too, no I could not understand what the words were the way they were presented on the screen, I can understand it and I listen it, it was beautiful, whether I knew the word being sang at the time or not, it was truly a wonderful show, and I enjoyed it.
Reporter: Why do you think this show can move people’s heart inside?
Barnhorn: Well I looked at it and it touched different times, you had one scene there where young man and his family went on look like a picnic so to speak, and the family got beat down by the communist regime, and it showed and it showed what’s going on there, and it showed the love of the family was there but was being suppressed, I also believe that a lot of the dancing and trying to think what word I’m looking for, dancing it just brought out a lot of culture and it brought out a warmth inside that was wonderful, I truly enjoyed it.
Reporter: Do you know that this group was refused the visas by the HK government, all seven shows were sold out already, so many people in HK they’re waiting to see the show, what do you think about this?
Barnhorn: I think that’s terrible, this is the culture of the people of the country, and to say that they’re not allowed to come in their own country to show the art is wrong, it may be safer for them not to go in, but if they’re willing to go in show it, we should have the rights within the world at least to speak and to speak of our minds, speak of our beliefs, our philosophy, and that’s a nature right over here and should be in China as well, and I’m sad for the people in HK, they’re going to miss the show because it’s wonderful.
Thank you Tom.
