Judy at the Shen Yun performance in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Welcome to SOH’s coverage of Shen Yun Performing Arts, I’m your host Daniel Teng. In this program we’re taking a look at the second performance of Shen Yun Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

We’ll be hearing a range of opinions about the performance, the first being from ballet dance teacher Judy Meacham. Here are her initial impressions. [Audio]

Truth Sets Us Free…Sydney

Welcome, this is Corinne Malaske from SOH Radio Network, with an interview from Sydney, Australia. Shen Yun has touched the hearts of many throughout their global tour.  There is a spiritual principal that runs through the performance that is felt. The theme brings a very positive message for audiences. Marie could see that the older chinese members of the audience recognized and found encouragement in each performance. They saw that these good principals from the past have not been lost.

Retired stock broker Mr. Malcom Salmon, a captivated audience member at the Divine Performing Arts premiere at the New London Theatre.

Welcome to the SOH Radio Network, my name is Grace Mann and it is my privilege to introduce you to the première performance of the Divine Performing Arts staged in London, UK on the 3rd March at the New London Theatre.

Our in house reporter caught up with retired stockbroker Mr. Malcolm Salmon and his wife after the show and they happily shared their experience of the performance.

Mr Salmon felt that the show was wonderful. It was all very, very good. He also shared that the performance was very dignified and outstanding.  It was all superb.  When asked what touched his heart, Mr. Salmon replied; the sincerity of everybody was so good and dignified.  So too, the music and the singing was also extremely good and very well done.

Mrs. Salmon also thought the show was excellent.

After receiving a Divine Performing Arts flyer in their letter box, it caught both Mr. and Mrs Salmon’s eye. They thought it sounded very attractive, so they decided to come.

Traditional Chinese culture is steeped in the time-honoured belief of divinity and the cultivation teachings within the Buddha and Tao schools.  It is said that Buddhism and Daoism were never really part of society – because people left the secular world to go and practice Daoism and Buddhism.  Therefore, China’s traditional societal principals, values and virtues were largely derived from various versions of Confucianism. (the teachings of Confucius.)

Ancient Chinese culture embraced the concept of cultivation, the practice of continuously improving one’s heart and mind to harmonize with universal principles such as truth, kindness and forbearance.

Some 17 years ago, the ancient cultivation practice of Falun Dafa was introduced into China’s main stream society, rekindling these guiding tenets of truthfulness, compassion and forebearance. Falun Dafa continues to be practiced by many, many millions of people world-wide.

Within Chinese history, people revered Heaven, complied with morality, and respected each other and their elders. So too, the people restrained their conduct, were loyal to one’s emperor and country, and upright conduct between men and women was also a set tenet.

The ancient Chinese heart knew that righteousness and propriety was rewarded by Heaven, whilst vice and immorality were met with retribution.

There was also a time when Chinese people, including students would sit in meditation to calm their minds and purify their thoughts before beginning any works or studies.  Education and learning was also greatly valued.

Another key principle of China’s ancient culture is the act of humility.   So too, devotion to parents and siblings, the most basic form of promoting the interests and needs of others before one’s own.  These acts of altruism can only be accomplished by those who learn the ability of self-discipline.

Within the culture of ancient China, concern for others was always demonstrated through the practice of the Golden Rule: “What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others;” “Since you yourself desire standing then help others achieve it, since you yourself desire success then help others attain it.”

Since the Cultural Revolution and communistic rule in China over the past 60 years, the sacred dignity of China’s ancient culture has been unashamedly voided by those who rule the country.

The enduring mission of the three Divine Performing Arts companies since its inaugural global tour in 2006 is to resurrect and celebrate the true and genuine essence of China’s traditional culture and history of 5,000 years. In doing so, DPA is rekindling the essential nature and heritage of ­all humankind, as it moves into the third month of  its 2009 world-wide tour.

Divine Performing Arts consistently receives revered accolades and acclaim, with international recognition throughout the wider multi-cultural populace, above and beyond belief.

The Divine Performing Arts premiered in London, UK, on 3rd March with its final performance on the 7th March, Taichung, TW, performances are from 4th – 8th March, Columbus, OH, USA, March 8th, and Aarhus, DM, March 9th – 10th.

Jena, Matthew and Avery at the Washington DC DPA matinee performance on 15th February.

Hello and welcome to a further update of the 2009 Divine Performing Arts world-wide tour. I am your host Grace Mann for the SOH Radio Network.  This DPA show on the 15^th February was staged at the Kennedy Center Opera House in Washington, DC, where it again received resounding accolades from a capacity audience.

After the show, audience members Jena and her husband Matthew who are both accountants, along with their son Avery, spoke with our in-house reporter and gladly shared their experiences of the performance.

Jena’s response was that she loved the whole show, the costumes the music, she loved it all.  Though, the act that captured her heart was the performance depicting the persecution of Falun Gong.  She felt that the way the message of this very real situation was portrayed was impeccably and discerningly done.  Jena also went on to say she was glad that ‘the message’ is getting out there; as not everybody knows about it.

When asked if he had learned anything from the show, Matthew revealed that he had learnt something, which was: that ancient Chinese culture has an essence of ‘tolerance and mercy.’  Matthew also said the show was spectacular and flawless.

SO WHAT IS FALUN GONG?

Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa, or just Dafa) is a high-level cultivation practice guided by the characteristics of the universe-Truthfulness, Benevolence, and Forbearance.

“Cultivation” means continuously striving to better harmonize oneself with these universal principles. “Practice” refers to the exercises – five sets of easy-to-learn gentle movements and meditation. Cultivating oneself is essential; practicing the exercises supplements the process.

Over time, the principles of Dafa unveil the deepest and most profound truths of the universe. Following these principles, practitioners of Falun Dafa gradually enlighten to the true meanings of life, finding the path of return to their origins and true selves.

While the exercises have deep inner meanings, they also help to reduce stress and can bring great improvements in health and fitness.

Falun Dafa has an ancient history. It has been  passed down over the ages from a single master to a single disciple in each generation. The disciple would later have a disciple of his own, to whom he would pass on the teachings, thereby quietly passing the practice down throughout history.

In 1992, Mr. Li Hongzhi (respectfully referred to by practitioners as “Master” or “Teacher”) first taught Falun Dafa publicly in the city of Changchun, China, and then continued to lecture all across the country. Those who attended experienced such profound benefits that they told family and friends. As a result, the number of practitioners grew very quickly, solely by word of mouth, and by 1998, at least 70 million people had taken up the practice in China alone.

Today, Dafa is practiced and cherished by over 100 million people in over 80 countries, and  throughout the years has received a plethora of honors.

Practitioners of Falun Dafa strive to cultivate their xinxing [mind-nature, or character] to become kinder, more honest and more patient people. The higher one is able to elevate their  xinxing, the deeper the understanding one has of the teachings presented in Zhuan Falun (Falun Dafa’s primary text.)

Falun Dafa practitioners cultivate themselves while living normally in a complex environment of secular society. People of all nationalities, races, socio-economic backgroundsand gender, ages, occupations, and different faiths are welcome to practice, and do so entirely of their own free will, at their own pace, and for as long as they choose.

Many of the DPA performers are Falun Gong practitioners and as such, they apply the principals of truthfulness, compassion and tolerance in all aspects of their everyday lives.

Unfortunately, since July 1999 to this day, Falun Gong, and the practitioners of Falun Gong in China and abroad, come under severe and relentless persecution and propaganda from the Communist regime that governs China and its world-wide embassies.
